Dear Anna Ruth, I want you to know what a great job you're doing as acting director for the English course while your boss is away. Juggling the challenges has really strengthened your character. Now, for something to give you a non-work-related focus for your free time - NaNo 2013! I hereby give you permission to spend a couple hours a day - or more, if your schedule allows - immersed in the world of novel writing. No lesson planning allowed during these sacred hours! I vow to buy you another tin of instant coffee, so that you will not run out of that ever-important substance during the crucial month of November. I vow not to waste your writing time on Facebook. I vow to aim for the stars in terms of word counts on your days off. Here's how it's going to work: You are going to wake up with fresh energy every day and, aided by that morning cup of coffee, write your heart out from 6:30AM-7:30AM. You'll go about your work day, constantly dreaming of that building novel in your head and Word file, and when sieste comes, you'll be free to write again! After your nap, from 2:00PM-3:00PM, you can work on that beauty. And if you have any energy left after teaching your evening classes, by all means, from 9:00PM-infinity, write away! When you reach 50,000 words, dear friend, you will know the sheer joy of having a novel of your own. And as if that weren't enough, you will be free to enjoy one meal out with friends without paying attention to thrift or health - go ahead and order that Kashmiri naan! So, in conclusion, you can do this. I have every confidence that November is going to be a stellar month for you, and make December even more worth celebrating than it already is - because you'll be a novelist! All the best, and I'll be with you all the way, Anna Ruth |
