Homecoming

"Pick up the pace, Suzie."

"Yes, ma'am."

The little girl trotted along behind her mother. 

"Your father will be home soon. He won't like coming home to an empty house."

Suzie did know how much he hated that. 

They turned the corner and saw his car in the driveway.  Suzie heard her mother's intake of breath.

Opening the door, the two were met with silence.  Her mother stopped a few steps inside the door and screamed.  She pushed Suzie back out.

Suzie's father lay face down in a pool of blood.  Clearly, he wouldn't be making her mother upset anymore.
