A startling sign
Woven into her eyes
Distances so wide
Choices unchangeable
Decisions firmly made
All forever enshrined
Wondrous and wild
I am both jealous and envious
A toxic combination
That has no doubt poisoned her
Proximity has led to reciprocity
She has become so much like me
Incurable that is
Loving her is all that I have
She is the sun in a dark sky
My wave on a motionless sea
For me there can never be
Another love like hers and mine
I have only one to give
It all that I have ever had
I am incapable of any more
While she has love to spare
Sure I would admit
I often think it’s unfair
But such foolish thoughts
Are best kept locked
Stored in my fragile mind
Left there to hide
As well as reside
As a fear increasingly clear
I know that soon
Maybe before the next moon
And without question
Before another sun
Her livable life
Such a feast of time
Is about to be undone
Chewed up and spit out
God above has had enough
He wants her more than me
If she is his lost lamb
I am his damned wolf
I could never be like her
No matter how much I tried
And thus repeatedly lied
I am quite sure
More than anything else
That soon she will die
Her tedious life
Will come an end
Tragically I am
And will remain
Unable to pretend
The loss of her
Will cripple me
Removing my heart
And every remaining spark
I won’t be able to feel
I will forget what’s real
While reality takes hold
Like hands around my throat
Crushing me to death
Leading me to my own end
Forcing me to face
All that has ever been
A hell of a thing
All that has ever been
A startling sign
Of what God intends
He wants me to see
The end for what it will be
Both hers and thus mine
I will pay for every sin
Even though I’m sure
That I have paid too much
I am standing by her side
Watching her time expire
What comes next is unclear
What will happen to me
Of that I am abundantly aware
A startling sign is first
Everything else is last…
