A short poem about the lack of compassion in our society and what caused it.
Our days.

On the first day, God created light
He saw that it was good, and separated day and night
And so became the light and the dark
The Day and The Night came to be
And that was the first day.

On the second day, God cast up a divide
He called this a firmament, behind which He could hide
And so became the land of God
The realm of Heaven came to be
And that was the second day.

On the third day, God said there should be land
He saw life should grow, fruits and grass among the sand
And so became the land and the seas
The whole of Earth came to be
And that was the third day.

On the fourth day, God created time
He saw stars appear, and markings in a line
And so became the days and the seasons
The Sun and The Moon came to be
And that was the fourth day.

On the fifth day, God created the animals of the sea and the air
He saw that they should multiply, and saw how they should fare
And so became the fish and the birds
The Guardians of the Ocean and Sky came to be
And that was the fifth day.

And on the sixth day, God created the beasts of the land
He saw the creation of four legged animals, and two legged man
And so became the life of the Earth
The kingdom of People came to be
And that was the sixth day.

And on the seventh day, God was to create love and compassion
But instead he rested, hung in suspension
And so emptiness settled down over the kingdom of People
The truth of Love and Compassion never came to be
And that was the seventh day.

And with our days, People created hate and fear
For we had not seen how to be kind or care
And so on that seventh day we pretended
The tale of Religion came to be
And those were our days.
