This lethargy confounds me so simply
longing to awaken from my ignorance
yet I am still captured by the simplest surprises
the waking of a small kitten
the dreams in which a man learns compassion.
Still my quietly closing eyes feel so tired
hummingbirds beating them to sleep
with the quickness of their tiny hearts
In the wake of a butterflies journey I am silent
unaware of where it may go
and my centre has been forecasted as something
bigger than my own.
Yet this silence of mind confuses me
in the resonance of my thoughts it captures me
the butterfly in its brevity
captures it so existentially.
Something bigger than me,
something bigger than me.
And so I breathe the hymn to aid my rest.
