This is a light poem about a romance that started and ended over the phone.
The day I found her
Was the day I heard her

When I first heard her voice,
Everything around me felt like empty noise.

It was sometime last year, maybe in December
When I dialed a ‘wrong number’

I got her on the line
And was carried away by her voice that was as sweet as new wine

As She asked, “Who is this?”
I stood like a tongue-tied little miss.

I had forgotten my name
But I didn't want her to think this was a game

Told the first name that came into my head
And she chuckled, “That’s a girl’s name,” she said

This was how our telephone love started,
My love for her, upwards it darted

I hung on her words everyday
Oh, what can I say!

We spoke sweet nothings in each others’ ears
And shared our joys, sorrows and fears.

I was touched by her concerns for me
And wanted to share with her our future that I began to see

I voiced my intent to meet her
And tell her of our future

That instant, she said she will try
And my mouth went dry.

Why the hesitation,
Did she not like our connection?

She stated many reasons
To postpone our meetings through what seemed like seasons.

Finally I gave up when her reasons went up to ninety nine
I directly asked if she would be mine.

Her answer came with the receiver’s ‘click’
I felt sick.

I can't believe she hung up on me
I had always thought she and me could be a ‘We’

After many days of heartache, I began to see
Maybe, we were not meant to be

Maybe she was ugly and fat,
Or just another spoilt little brat.
