I dream of a long lost lover on a Midsummer's night... |
I dream of my long lost lover who appears upon a garden of flower. Slender waist, dainty like a willow, firm jaws and delicate eyebrows. His eyes are sharp as those of an eagle. Their perfection, oh! None could measure. 'My darling, how could you be so cruel? You left me alone in this empty castle.' 'I have return only for a short time, and must depart when dawn comes.' 'Do not leave me, delight of my eyes. Without you I am a world without sunrise.' 'Unwillingly I must cross the River Styx. I cannot be the undying phoenix. Oh my darling, my heart, let us enjoy the short Midsummer's dream for now. Before you are awaken by the light of dawn and I shall be forgotten anon.' Then my darling holds me so tight that I can no longer think what is wrong and what is right. His kisses are soft and lingering, a taste so sweet I could not help wishing that he shall forever stay within my dreams. Yet, alas! I am doomed with uncured longing. When once dawn breaks he shall not stay, to the River Styx he goes away. I wake up with tears upon my pillow, My dream leaves nothing of his shadow. Outside, the wind gently blows. Summer leaves softly caress my windows. |
