He thought this very odd and certainly did not have it delivered. |
Let me introduce myself, my name is Winthorpe Wilson. I am going to let you in on a story about a time the moon did not rise and did not shed its full moon prowess upon the world below it. Percy had stepped out from within the door and onto his front porch. It was a new day and he was happy to see the sun shining again. The morning paper was lying at his feet. He thought this very odd since he did not ever read the paper and certainly did not have it delivered to his sweet home sweet. He stepped over the newspaper leaving it rolled up in its plastic wrapper. “I’ll pick it up tonight after work”, he thought to himself. “But I will not read it”. He then thought again to himself but this time with a sense of urgency and a little guilt, “I’ll pick it up and take it to the trash and that will be it. No more, no less.” That evening when Percy arrived home after work he found the newspaper just where he had left it. On the porch in front of the door. He looked at the paper then looked at the door. Again, he looked at the paper then again at the front door. He knew he would be unable to get into that door without first stepping over the newspaper. He also new that he could not leave the paper there in front of the door because the next time he would have to leave his home and walk out his front door the newspaper would still be there and he could not have that. He was much to clean and neat for that, he also imagined tripping on the newspaper and hurting himself. Possibly falling and twisting his ankle or even worse falling and cracking his head open. What if someone else came to my door selling cookies or something or insurance! Maybe they would not see the newspaper lying there. Maybe the newspaper has been lying there for weeks now or even months, leaves and debris caught within the creases, the paper beginning to rot within the plastic wrapper. That person, young or old could not see that newspaper lying there in front of the door because the newspaper is now beginning to become part of the porch, molding itself to the shape of something I don’t know what. That person could trip and hurt themselves very seriously. “Hmmm”, he thought, “oh boy! I couldn’t have that”. Percy walked toward the newspaper, picked it up in his right hand. He held that newspaper tight. He walked towards the garbage can he kept at the side of his house just beyond the porch hidden from view. He gently tossed the newspaper towards the can ready to whisper, “swish”, when the newspaper fell into the can without touching the sides of the can first. But, of course, something had to go wrong. The plastic wrap the newspaper was in was sticky, maybe chocolate or some kind of candy that the overweight newspaper delivery boy was eating at the time of delivery. Anyways, the wrapper stuck to Percy’s hand and the newspaper had fell short of the garbage can and landed on the ground opening up to the front page headline and the picture that went along with it. The picture was of an elderly woman and man obviously posing for the picture when it was first taken. The headline read “Viciously Mauled in Green Park”. Percy knew he had recognized the two people in that picture. He also new Green Park was a dangerous place to be at night. Percy worked for the parks department and was stationed at Green Park. His job was to cut the grass, plant and maintain the flowerbeds within the park. Also, to clean up any dog litter that he may come across while working on his daily duties. His clothes and hands would get very dirty sometimes while at work at the park so that is why he liked his sweet home sweet to be very clean and tidy. Never a drop of dust or a speck of garbage anywhere within his property. He always washed the dishes after he ate and he always made his bed when he would rise for a new day. But tonight Percy was troubled, after seeing the front page of the newspaper he did not clean his dishes after he ate his supper. He also did not flush the toilet or wash his hands after his sit down meeting on the porcelain throne. Percy cried himself to sleep that night. He hadn’t cried in about 30 years. He remembered the last time he cried and would never forget it. I am now going to introduce an acquaintance of mine. He will let you in on the last time Percy cried. He saw it first hand. His name is Alexander Bloone. The last time Percy cried was a sight to behold. I have never seen anything like this before and let me tell you that I have witnessed many things in my time. Percy was a prophet and seer of the future sent straight form the god’s hands around us and set free after his birth. His ability was in hiding until its time was right to let Percy begin his chosen path. Percy did not know of his abilities yet. The modern world can be extreme and cruel making it hard to see the truth through all the lies. I knew what Percy was the moment he crossed my path and knew his time had come. He was younger then and naïve to the dangers that lurk in the shadows and behind clean smiles. The moon was full of course. I never go out unless the moon allows me to be myself. I have accepted my fate and wanted to give Percy his fate. |
