A day at the job flash fiction.
“You need help.”

I needed the blunt assessment of my current situation like I needed her to bash out my teeth with a tire iron. Of course I needed help. I was looking at a pile of paperwork that needed to be done before five o’clock, a clock showing that it was only an hour away and, oh, I wasn’t looking at the two men that were suppose to help me. That’s because they were not there. Where they were was anyone’s guess. My guess was the local bar. They were probably having tall drinks and a good laugh at my expense. So, yes, I needed help. I just wish my boss would stop pointing out the obvious and start hunting down the others.

“Yes, I could.” This was a far cry from what I really wanted to say, but it was safer.

“So, where are Ben and John?”

“You got me.” I replied. “I haven’t seen them in a couple of hours.”

She looked at the gold watch on her slender wrist.

“Oh, my bad. I guess I scheduled the feeding time too early.”

Feeding time? What feeding time? Don’t tell me she cut them loose early for a meal while I was stuck here at the office with all the work.

“So you let them go to dinner two hours ago?”

“Not exactly.”

When the smile broke out on her face it was not friendly. It was evil. The smile was the kind of smile a wolf might give that nice juicy, fat rabbit right before it struck. Of course I didn’t really notice that smile all that much. The fangs had most of my attention at that point.

It was then that I had a pretty clear idea why the company had such a high turn over rate.
