A Preface in a new novel i'm working on.
The scorching sun, like it was June outside, was hot on the back of my neck as I looked up at 'Him'. Ignoring the beautiful ocean paradise behind us, I searched his face for answers that I didn't really want to know.

His gaze, that was normally like a calm aquamarine ocean, seamed to darken to a dark grey as if a colossal storm approached. It frightened me. This wasn't the man I was used to, that I had grown to love over the years.. This wasn't who I thought I knew. But He had proven me wrong, and now I questioned him. His judgement. How could he lie to me? Did I mean anything to him anymore?

"Who told you?", he whispered. The tone of his voice, usually so gentle, Had a new tone. The whisper of danger, of something mysterious, of something unknown. His own eyes searched my face, as if he were trying to find the answer there. Just then, a gentle cool breeze came from the ocean, and blew his wavy golden-blonde hair in all directions.

"Does it matter?", I replied just as quietly and lowered my gaze. The truth was, no one had told me, I had figured it out by myself. My long light blue cotton dress and my own long blonde curls began to flutter in another breath of the salty-sea breeze air. I felt a shiver go down my spine. I felt colder than i've ever felt before. Colder than Ice. Finally, I looked up towards the sun, as if i was trying to find answers in its burning rays, then i looked back at him. His eyes were no longer the dark-grey that i recognized as anger, they were a Cold-Icy blue. His eyes looked as though he was looking at the inside of a grave. This frightened me more than the Dark Grey fury that I had just seen in his eyes, because now i understood. It was true, Everything was true...
