Moving from the past through the present and into an unknown future |
PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE The faintest hint of wood smoke floating in the evening air, Now thrusts me back to earlier days before my loss and care. How can it be, this homely scent recalls those long gone days? And layers over pain and loss those simple joys and praise? Can I go back, reclaim the past and live my life again? This foolish whim can only lead to wretchedness and pain. And now I know the sun shines bright, the day is calm and warm It speaks to me of new-born hope, of shelter from the storm. The future, though, is clothed in mist, I cannot see the track And I must travel forwards and may not once turn back. But plan and seek for meaning, in all I do and say The mist will clear and give a glimpse of what may be the way. I make a reckoning with life, and fate will play its part To reconcile my actions through my mind and through my heart To those I love I pass along such wisdom I may find Seek absolution for my sins where I was less than kind. Forgiveness is a powerful tool to cauterize the past Cast off the chains of hatred, and find our peace at last. “Too hard, too hard,” I hear the cry, “I cannot let this go.” But past is past and graved in stone, it cannot change, I know. The richness and the joy of life can conquer fear and woe And find a new beginning in everywhere we go The end game and the final steps will be a challenge, true But hope and love and laughter have the power to see me through. |
