Ian may or may not be dreaming
Written for the Daily Flash Fiction Challenge with a word limit of 300.

The prompts: This story must contain the line: "Want to see something cool?"

Dreaming?

“We don’t like your type in here.”

Ian stared at the turban atop the talking beard and thought… I don’t like this dream.

Closing his eyes, Ian tried to imagine Hawaii. Hawaii and bikinis; now that was a proper dream.

A slap on the back of his head told him changing channels was not going to be so easy. He reopened his eyes only to see that the turban had been replaced by the largest human being he’d ever laid eyes on.

The way the meat-mountain was staring down at him told Ian that it was time to exit stage left.

Giant hands grabbed his shirt and belt. The impressiveness of the giant’s lack of effort as he carried Ian to the door was second only to the spectacular distance he tossed the young man into the crowded street.

Ian landed badly.

“So dreams have pain,” he thought.

As he struggled to get to his feet, Ian couldn’t help but notice the crowd seemed to be melting away from the street in an awful hurry.

Fearing the worst, he turned to face the giant whom he assumed was going to finish the job.

What he saw, terrified him. The giant was terrified; not of Ian but of something it saw just beyond the young man. Ian turned slowly and froze. He’d never seen a dragon before; at least not one this close. So close he could feel the hot breath on his face
.
He couldn’t run. He couldn’t even scream.

What happens when you die in a dream, he thought.

Just then, a small boy ran into the street. With a wave of his hand, he sent the dragon flying off to parts unknown.

The boy then turned to Ian and said, “You want to see something cool?”
