He said that he loved me, then the fist came,

He said that he loved me when harsh words caused such pain,


He said that he loved me as he pushed me down to the ground,

He said that he loved me, but the slaps welted my face,



He said that he loved me as he pulled on my hair,

He said that he loved me as his belt strap cut thru my legs,



He said that he loved me as each year past,

Taller and taller I grew as each fist grew, too,



Grew, I did til I became man,

Grown are all of us, knowing all his definitions of love,

Empowered were us to spread our fear and love.
