If you understand death, you can understand divorce
Death & Divorce

I know that you have seen or experienced death.
You might even have been there at a last breath.

When someone you know, someone that you love dies,
Everyone stands by, hugs, holds your hand, and cries.

You spend time away from your work and worries,
Your friends sit and listen as you tell your stories.

You have a service where you are allowed to mourn.
You can stop, you can drop the burden you’ve borne.

No one turns away if you cry and show your pain.
None expect you to stand when grief falls like rain.

You have been there, you have experienced a death.
You know that one day we’ll breathe our last breath.

You are prepared and know what to do and say,
You don’t want to, but you can do it on that day.

Have you seen a couple or a friend go through a divorce?
Have you watched or wondered how they lost the course?

Have you have been afraid and didn’t know what to say?
Have you have avoided talking, waiting one just more day?

You wait and hope, you stand back, and you watch your friend.
You wait and hope, surely this misery soon will come to an end.

What you see from afar, as you wait, as you hold your breath,
You should know, part of your friend has been put to death.

You don’t think you understand, but you really should.
Part of your friend has died, you can help if you would.

There isn’t a memorial, no prayers or tears at a graveside.
Part of your friend is dead, but you can’t bury what’s inside.

I have changed, my life, my heart, and my soul are no longer whole.
Part of me has died and I need you, I don’t know how to fill the hole.

You don’t know how, but you really wish you could,
Somehow fix your friend, help them again feel good.

The next time you wonder how to help or what to do,
Remember that divorce is death, help me get through.

Divorce isn’t contagious, you can safely help me.
Stand by me, be the friend you know how to be.
