The second of my Seven Sins series -- The tale of a girl who craves attention. |
Seven Sins: Envy (Draft One) (Updated 12/8/14 @ 11:20AM) "Depression clouds the mind as one tries to mentally create the reasoning for existence. As they try to realize what exactly they have to bring to this table we call life. Never good enough to please the mass, never good enough to please themselves. A particular feeling that overcomes the soul as the inevitable darkness weighs heavily on the mind. What is my calling? Where do I belong? Noticing that everybody around me has their traits that make them unique. Athleticism. Intelligence. Beauty. I want these. I want them all.” Cassie closed her powder blue diary shut, the beautiful golden locket clasping the ends together. She slid the book to the side as she reached to grab her tea. Taking a sip from the warm nectar, she placed it back down and stared at her reflection in the cup. The distorted image of her face through the liquid was exactly what made her stomach churn. Cassie knew that she was not the prettiest girl in school and she was constantly teased about it growing up. Boys always called her names like “Nasty Cassie” or “Cass the Bass”. She was always confused about the ability of perception in others. What exactly caused people to think the way they did or react the way they do? Is she guilty of this moral apprehension? Cassie took a quick look around the diner, trying to perceive it as if through the eyes of one of her tormentors. Look at the fat slob sulking the corner trying out his various meats. Look at the beautiful waitress pretending she actually has feelings for the waste of human space that is that gigantic blob. Look at the gorgeous slut in the corner demanding the attention of the elderly suits. What a gold-digger. Look at the – Cassie was cut off before she could finish her thoughts, a sloppy-joe finding its way down her chest and onto her lap. Her sundress was covered in disgusting chili and sesame seeds. “Oops, did I do that?” The voice rang throughout her ears as if it was the screeching of a demonic harpy. Meredith Cain. Cheer Captain. Prom Queen. The cream of the crop. The top of the food chain. The Queen Bee. The boys who tormented Cassie couldn’t hold a candlestick to the destructive nature that resided inside the heart of Meredith Cain, the bitch who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. "Don't look so bummed out, Cassie. That dress was ugly anyways. If anything, I gave it a nice makeover!" Cassie's blood was boiling as she tried to avoid jumping up and attacking Meredith. She loved this dress. Honestly, it was probably one of her favorite thrift shop finds ever. The powder blue of the dress matched her notebook, creating that sense of singularity and dullness that Cassie was so used to. Though Cassie would have loved to be adored and appreciated for her looks and fashion sense, she knew she would have a better chance in her dreams. Meredith leaned over with a napkin she pulled from her purse, looking Cassie in the eyes, "Here Cassie. I'm sorry. Let me at least help clean th- oops!" Her mind moving at a million frames per second, Cassie watched as Meredith's elbow knocked her tea over, causing the Earl Grey to spill and absorb into the papers of her diary. Forever ruined, Cassie couldn't help but shed a tear as she scurried to grab to her book, the tea already warping the pages and the letters to an unrecognizable blur. Cassie was broken. "Oh, Cassie. Hon, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to ruin your book. Here, let me get a you a new one. Now, which dumpster has the best rates again?" Cassie stood up disgusted and looked at Cain, fury raging in her eyes but fear and common sense overcoming her hatred after realizing the amount of “worker bees” at the Queen’s side. Meredith met Cassie’s eyes and just winked, her pearly white teeth glimmering. Without saying a word, Cassie grabbed her belongings and left the diner, tears streaming down her face and the foul stench of the chili rotting her vegetarian nostrils. She could hear the echoing laughter of Meredith and her posse the entire journey home, into her room and throughout her dreams. Oh how Cassie dreamed that she could get revenge on these girls who tormented her. However, she had to admire that Ms. Cain knew where her place in life was. She knew where she was going, exactly what she had and what it meant to be the Alpha. Cassie wanted that. Cassie wanted to be the girl who caused boys to drool as she walked by. She wanted to be the girl who had her army of worker bees. Cassie wanted to be the Queen. Rolling around in bed, Cassie came up with a plan. A plan so brilliant that she would finally dethrone that selfish, cruel, bitchy Meredith Cain once and for all. The years of being tormented and bullied. The years of being called an ugly cow in overalls. The years of having food thrown at her face. The years of being invisible to the world except as a whipping post for the rich kid. Cassie was done. She knew what she had to do. "I miss you. I miss the drive for perfection. I miss the passion of understanding the human mind. I miss the lack of innocence -- the tainted revenge. No. I do not miss you. Because I now have you. I have found that again. I have rediscovered it. I will not lose you again. The discrepancies that have plagued my soul are finally coming full circle. The creature who poisons my existence will receive its just desserts. The torment will be stricken. The pain will be dissipated. The beginning will be apparent. The light will be brillaint. It is my time to ascend. It is my time to find purpose." The next day, Cassie walked up the steps of her high school with a newfound confidence. Smiling and throwing her luscious brunette hair back, she pushed through the double doors of the school. Showing off her pearly whites, Cassie’s heels clicked on the ground to a familiar rhythm. People stood in shock and awe of this new female making her way through the halls in a beautiful red dress. Jaws were dropping and eyes were overcome with confusion. Cassie absolutely loved the looks she was getting. The lifetime of torment was finally coming to an end and Cassie was taking in the aura of the audience, leeching off the attention as if it contained the very essence of life itself. Envious no more, she made her way to the girls restroom, where the Queen’s servants resided. Once she entered the bathroom, she noticed the girls doing their makeup and gossiping about her, per usual. Cassie cleared her throat, making her presence known. The girls took the hint and turned to face her, but they were frozen at the sight before them. It wasn’t until she flashed a seductive wink that they all started screaming at the tops of their lungs. They all rushed past her in a herd, leaving the bathroom empty and quiet except for Cassie’s breathing. She couldn’t help but smile as she grabbed a tube of lipstick from the sink. She stared in the mirror at her flawless beauty – or should she say Meredith Cain’s flawless beauty. Staples and bruises lined the side of her face as Cassie rubbed the lipstick against her lips and smiled, using her fingers to adjust the skin that was once the Queen’s face to better suit its new home. ...The creature who poisons my existence will receive its just desserts... |
