Remember just how lucky we are this Christmas, - contest entry.
Perspective

The first present is always the best,
you just know you have so many left,
could you imagine having only one present?
wouldn't that be most unpleasant?

Items are so expensive at this time of year,
surely all parent’s would cry a few tears,
But that’s first World problems I suppose,
only caring about money, careers and clothes.

So imagine my disdain when I received a pear,
oh boy did I let out a little prayer,
how could my family cope next year,
Oh, this has filled me with tremendous fear.

A pear where I live is a treasure,
bound to leave you with endless pleasure,
but this is the worst thing I could have got,
my family must have spent a heck-of-a-lot!

Here in Africa it’s Christmas morning,
how could it fill me with such mourning?
I say: ‘My family don’t have any money,’
and they reply: ‘Don't worry, we’ll survive, honey.’

I opened the first gift I’ve ever received,
and I never thought that I would have believed,
that even though my life is unclear,
we may not afford any food next year!

Through famine and drought,
I’ll make sure my family does not die out,
for this is the worst Christmas gift ever,
I bet we’ll regret this present forever.
