A short story about an abused girl who returns home to seek revenge.
Her eyes fill with water as tears build up, the mean man yelling, hitting, and swinging at her. She stands and runs, her bare feet splashing up mud onto her white nightgown, her hair tangling in the wind. So innocent, so elegant, yet she runs from everything she has ever known. Through the dark woods, right over the rushing stream, further than he ever let her wander. The man is shouting her name, "Angelica!" She doesn't even look back, she just keeps running. The cliff is near, jagged rocks sticking out of the salty water. She doesn't stop, she runs right off the edge with just enough strength to put her out over the sharp rocks, covered in ocean foam. She hits the cold water, letting the waves toss her about. The waters soft fingers untangle her hair, clean off the blood and mud, and take her hand. Leading her away from the shore, the place of her pain. They take her slowly and gently under the water. To the bottom of the sea where the land of the innocent lays. She smiles as spray mist her face and water seeps slowly up over her head. She laughs and seems to age as she sinks deeper and deeper. The waves whisper her name and tell her she'll be safe soon. She'll return to how she was before he turned mean. The waves promise her things. "Angelica, Angelica," they say, "Come with us for a little longer dear, soon you will have the sweet revenge you deserve." Angelica smiles. With that smile her child leaves and her woman comes and all to soon she's standing at the edge of that cliff, blowing kisses to the waves. She turns and smiles at the big white house. She is a woman now in the short span of time. Hatchet in hand she walks purposfully towards the house.
