Lilith was Adam's first wife.+ |
Isaiah 34:14 "The wild cat shall meet with jackals, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow, yea, Lilith shall repose there and find her place of rest." In Genesis there are two creation stories of Adam's wife. Genesis 2 Eve was created from Adam's rib. Genesis 1 Adam's wife was created separately and equally. The Rabbis mention Lilith as Adam's first wife in the Talmud and Torah. Lilith is mentioned in the Babylonian Talmud~ "If an abortion had the likeness of Lilith its mother is unclean by reason of the birth, for it is a child, but it has wings." (BT Shabbat 151b) The Rabbis believed Lilith has wings. She is immortal, because she did not eat the forbidden fruit. The Alphabet of Ben Sira in the Midrashim, Lilith spoke the name of God to escape Adam. She flew to the Red Sea, the Land of Nod. God sent Angels to bring her back. The Angels threatened to drown her in the Red Sea, if she would not submit. Lilith was defiant, "I will not be your beast of burden!" The Angels could not return her for they feared for Adam. From the Talmud; Baba Batra 73a-b discusses Lilith's son by Cain and her long red hair. Her son has wings. Erubin 100b the Rabbis discuss Lilith's red hair in relation to Eve's auburn hair. Babylonian Talmud 151b warns that a man should not sleep alone in a house lest Lilith fall upon him in his sleep and steal his seed. These changelings were called "Illu". They have wings; Eve did not. Who was Cain's wife ? Most likely he married his cousin from Lilith or his sister from Eve. Ah-men Rah Vertago. |
