The rain drizzled down from the sky that was anything but dark. In fact it glowed a bright white, such as that of the snow that would surely fall in place of the rain months later. It glowed white, faded to gray at the horizon where the sun could not touch, and illuminated the room I was sitting in. The black rooftops glistened a silvery blue as the rain still fell.
At last, the rain slowed and out from the foggy haze emerged dark greens of leaves on trees and fiery browns of corn fields, dry grass, and the tips of tree tops: the colors of September and the beginning of fall.
