Social commentary on the mistreatment of prisoners |
You never saw that place All the filth All the despair, the torment You never really understood how guard dogs stripped them of their rights like meat on a bone Peering into the crevices where secrets are supposed to be kept hidden Almost cutting out tongues for fear of spoken opinions You didn't realize that once each both them steps through that door, no longer do they own a name Only a number And it is all they will ever be known for You never remembered them, They are always forgotten Forgotten by all those who promised to call By those who promised to send letters and give hope when there was none For most are ashamed of the ones who commit wrongful acts This reverse palace, it claims to have education It claims that each and every number will have a chance to get back on the path they chose to derive from But the only thing to be taken from a place that people will kill to get out of are memories Memories that will haunt the mind for years to come It happened then It's happening now Blame the government Blame the people in charge Go ahead it's that easy But you You are the one who isn't saying anything You are the one who let it happen And when they get out It will be you who takes the blame for tucking them in that hell they were expected to call home for what seemed like a lifetime |
