Reflecting on my broken relationship
I need to rid myself of you;
pull you from my skin,
yank the hook from my heart,
forget you ever existed.

I need to shed you from my flesh;
claw your vision from my eyes,
pull the memory from my mind,
erase your existence from my life.

And yet, I find you lingering,
hiding in the dark;
and even though you're not here,
You're still tearing me apart.

You still haunt me in my dreams,
laughing at my fate
and every morning that I rise
I feel like a mistake.

I need you away from me,
need to flee from this somehow.
I should have had an escape route
planned out.

I never thought I'd need it
because I thought you'd never leave me.
Thought you'd always stay here.
I thought you'd always be.

I guess the sad truth of it all,
is that, in a way, you stayed.
For I can't shake you from my mind,
can't tear you from my brain.

I need to rid myself of you;
cut you from my skin,
hid the emptiness from my heart,
forget we'd ever been.

I need to shed you from my soul;
claw your vision from my sight,
shake loose the memories we made,
erase your existence from my life.

And yet, I find you lingering,
hiding in the dark;
and even though you're not here,
You're still tearing me apart.
