An entry for the Character Contest, this character has been with me for 4 years so enjoy.
The wild woodlands of a polluted world welcome Anoki, and his family of wolves. The few remaining packs in the North American continent ether reside here in Yellow Stone, or in the cold harsh winds of Alaska's violent frontier. Anoki bit back his frustration as he watched spectating humans walk along a path that they were prohibited from using. They used boxy machines to capture their image into their thin leaves of color. Anoki's sister Aponi relished in the attention all the while creating confusion for her elder brother who knew better than to trust these creatures that provided them a home but, never let them leave beyond the reserve. He knew that regardless of the reserves rules on hunting, they were no better than a zoo for these creatures to stare and marvel at as if they were the only two canines living in the wild. He sighed to himself his breathe almost visible as fog in the Autumn chill that transitioned their park from Fall to Winter. He knew soon the bears would hibernate, the deer would gather to avoid hunters, and pray would be scarce as the rabbits and squirrels that normally were his target ran beneath the ground or high in trees where he could not reach them.As his sister proudly posed for the humans he wondered through the woods nose high in the air as he decided to venture to the corner of the reserves. The air shifted around him but still all he could focus on was getting to the corner. As he was running he felt something bite at his leg. He looked down and the sight before him sent fear down his spine. A bear trap clamped down on his frontal leg as the blood caused him to white out onto the dirt.

Anoki awoke dazed and confused at the base of a cabin fireplace. He winced turning his head to see that his leg was now metals with their iron smell more irritating than blood. He didn't understand how his leg was replaced with this instrument then he noticed it. A human male white dark hair and thick coverings in colors he didn't recognize. The human looked at him and smiled. "Oh good you're alright. . . . it's okay boy, you got stuck in a bear trap." The human reached down to pet him but Anoki in fear growled and tried to bite him. He allowed the human to draw back his hand and keep his fingers but still, he stood his ground firmly. The man didn't reach any further he simply took a knife and carved a slab of meat from a dear he had skinned early a previous day tossed it to the wolf with a bowl of water and smiled. "Alright I won't touch you but here's some food for you. It's good to see you're such a fighter. Well good night Anoki." Anoki looked at him nearly instantly. How did this human know his name? He could not understand his snarls, he couldn't possibly be smart enough to read his paw prints and tell it was him. That was when the human leaned back in the chair he had set for himself and got ready to sleep. He knew he could easily wipe this man out in one bite but, at the same time he had also been saved by him. For now he would rest and decide later if this man before him was an enemy or a friend in the most unlikely form.
