IN-BETWEEN
In-between,
Not trapped
Like a hen on a bay
No wings no webs
Innocent as a lamb
Yet met for the slain
In-between
Tramping like vagabonds
On the island of tikis
No freedom no hope
Yet must be docile as donkey
In-between
Traumatized
And shrill shed
Spur and spittle
Our reckless soul
Awaiting a second miracle
In-between
Truth has become obsolete
Life its hopeless end
Who again shall they see
In the magnetic mirror of death?
Their traumatized self
Before the doctor’s butcher
In-between
Can the stethoscope decide our fate?
Really really
As innocent as the lamb
We’re just innocent children
Born in a confused
And hopeless country
In-between is a poem that laments the situation of young innocent Nigerians who are met to face brutality of a failed system as the only alternative and option left to reality. I actually felt there is no going back after birth and there is no means to hope except to face the brutal reality of suffering in attempt to make a living.
In-between was written on the night of 3rd May 2014.
