as I put away this file
and fade back
into a world where
each day is no longer
a desperate aching for the prompt
to direct my fingers into
creativity,

where my eyes no longer burn
from remaining awake
for long hours after midnight
trying to wrap my brain
around an especially vindictive
word,

where I no longer
have an excuse to discover
how our minds can take the same
beginning and wander
into paths I’d never know
without new friends I love
to read,

I know that though
I’m tired now, and desperately need
rest, when the time comes again,
I will be first in line
to try this madness
again.
