excerpt from my NaNoWriMo novel from November 2015 |
Above them in the bright blue sky, a pilot with a fondness for aerial acrobatics rolled and turned, diving one moment then reversing and soaring upward the next; like experiencing the sight and sound of sea gulls flying above the local grocery store parking lots, Demaris never tired of the wonder of living next to a municipal airport whose pilots had a soft spot for biplanes and other vintage aircraft. Every day this particular flier practiced, even today when others forsook their usual activities to gather with loved ones. The mechanical lilt of his engine brought forth a smile and a song of devotion and petition from her lips as she gazed upward: Teach me to fly, Lord. Teach me to fly, following ever after Thee, under the bright blue sky. Knowing You are faithful, Lord, knowing You are just, those times I know not where I go, teach me, Lord, to trust. You who hold my future and were with me in the past, help me now to do Thy will, the fruits of which will last. May I ever honor Thee, help me not to stray, but keep me in Thy Presence, Lord, to love Thee and obey. Teach me, Lord, I humbly ask, that I may soar above all that binds me here below, teach me, Lord, to love. Lead me to the ones who need You, please give me words to share For everywhere my feet may fall, I see them waiting there; waiting for someone to show them love beyond degree, pointing them to the one true Savior- dearest Lord, send me. Teach me now to fly, Lord. Teach me now to fly, following ever after Thee, into the bright blue sky. |
