I wanted to give music a human voice. It is so emotionally stirring. |
The harmonica had been at it all day. Over and over, it was playing the blues, like they had crawled up inside that mouth harp and couldn't get out. First, it was "ain't got no money" then "ain't got no woman, then a whole lot of "no bottle of whiskey to drown my troubles in". "Only so much down trodden music a soul can bear. A man could slit his wrists." The Stratocaster put in its' three chords, "we need power, passion, and truth". So full blast through Marshall amps Howlin Wolf, Muddy, Clapton, and the King. Gospel and blues gave birth, named it Rock and Roll. "Hey man, you givin' me an achin' head. I love some sex across the fretboard but where is the romance? Gettin' that fine woman into bed?" Now the saxophone blew all away. Delicious, delightful jazz melodies, playin' pure silky Coltrane, masterful Miles Davis. Don't forget sad Charlie " Bird" Parker. The piano piped in with glee, Bach, Beethoven and Mozart,"I can do it all: romance, jazz, gospel and blues". My friends, the Orchestra, heed my call. Out of the shadows came God given human voice. It is the first and most sublime. A versatile instrument, extraordinary choice. Reaches ocean deep in sorrow and loss, high in majestic mountains; love and joy. Longing for answers to Life, seeking serenity, peace in the stars. |
