Why can't we acknowledge the things we hide?
People hide a lot.

When we talk about hiding things, the assumption is always that anything worth hiding is big.

But what about the little secrets? "I don't really like that band" "I'm sad." We pretend they're not there.

It's sad to do that. Sad to pretend people don't have things to hide. It makes us isolated because everyone thinks "I'm the only person here with a secret". It's a tragedy to feel alone for something everyone does. I don't want to argue against hiding things because sometimes hiding things is good. But when we can't admit we hide pieces of ourselves, people torment themselves with the thought that they're the only one.

I call for an end to isolation, an end to pretending to be open when we aren't. If everyone could understand that no one is totally open, maybe it would be a little less lonely. More confusing, but not as empty.
