Archmage Marian teaching her apprentice Tiefling, Magic, some basic spells.
“It’s simple,” Marian said, floating in place above Magic, upside down with her head turned to her. “Simply channel your mana and... turn gravity off.” She smiled at her, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Despite being upside down, Magic marveled at her dress’s skirt not falling over her. A spell for everything, it seemed.

“Oh, when you put it like that, it’s so obvious! Gods, why hadn’t I thought of that earlier?” Magic hissed sarcastically in response, rolling her eyes. “And to clean myself off of dirt and grime, I just channel my mana and think of bath?”

“Essentially.”

The Tiefling groaned, rubbing her palms against her tired eyes. They had been at this training for hours, to the point where the moon was shining high in the sky, and the noises only came from their voices, and an occasional moan from a room above somewhere. Magic was exhausted, small bags forming under her eyes, and tail twitching from her trying to muster up energy. Marian promised she could sleep after she learned to levitate for an extended period of time.

That extended period of time upside down would be the time she would be allowed to sleep.

“Look, you’re putting far too much thought into this. You’re imagining it as one of our complex fire or lightning spells. This is simple gravity manipulation.”

“You keep saying that as if repeating yourself will drive the point in better!”

“Maybe you just need a push, something to get you up here, so half the work is already done.”

“Shush, I’m thinking.” Magic scanned the castle gardens, trying to find anything that could give her a boost. A push would work, but it was a matter of what could get her up there. She had already tried leaping up and flipping herself over, but that only resulted in her horns getting stuck in the ground like a notice board.

Then she had a crazy idea.

Magic stepped away from the closest wall and scanned it; simple stone brick, with some vines and ivy growing down its side. It would do, she thought. With a breath, she ran for it. Her hooves dug into the dirt with each step, before she leaped towards the wall. Some gravity spells are easier than others. Stabilizing oneself to a surface to allow movement along it is a fairly simple and equally useful spell.

Using it, she ran up the wall a few more feet and pushed off, using her running momentum to keep herself upside down. It was enough to get her in the position she wanted, but the challenge was staying that way. She panicked, feeling herself falling to the ground, meeting a future with a possibly broken horn. In a moment of adrenaline and prayer to a god somewhere, she closed her eyes, and mentally turned off gravity.

She never met the ground. She had her arms raised above her head, relatively speaking, in a vain attempt to protect herself, but the impact never came. Eyes peeking open, she timidly looked down, and saw the grass a mere few feet below her.

“Told you.”

“Shut up.” Magic laughed slightly, relaxing with her arms hanging limp in the air towards the ground. Her hair was loose and swishing in the wind above her, but she didn’t care. Marian floated over and squeezed her, giving her cheek a kiss with a confident smile.

“You managed to get yourself upside down, perfect.” She chirped happily, clapping her hands together. “We’ll work on your clothes later.”

Magic glanced up, noticing that her dress wasn’t staying static, like Marian’s. Her panties were on display for all the rooms surrounding the garden.

“You better be upside down come morning, or else we’ll do it again tomorrow night!” The instructor happily said, flipping herself back right-side up on the ground, patting her apprentice’s cheek. “And you better not lie about it; I have ways of knowing, and punishments in mind.”

With that, Marian turned and left for her room, letting out a tremendous yawn and stretch. Magic groaned, pushing up her skirt futilely as she struggled to find a comfy position to sleep in the air.

This was going to be a long night…
