Flights of Spring

Much as the tulip
(not quite as eager as the daffodil)
unfurls, uncurls its leaves,
spreads petals
to cup morning sun,
so too, she,
uncurls, unfurls her blankets
spreads fingers,
lets light drip.

With yearly renaissance
of being warm-tempered child,
burgeoning high spirits return:
sunny disposition now keeps storm clouds at bay.
She leaves depressions in the moist earth,
footprints, high arched and light,
able now, to dance amongst the blossoms,
twirling multi-colored gypsy skirt:
a garden unto herself.

Much as the hummingbird
(much later than the robin)
flits, darts from bud to bloom,
sucking life's nectar,
so too, she,
winter-starved against the darkness,
darts, flits from one thing to the next
eager to inhale all life has to offer,
spreading wings once again --
forgetting flight plan.
