[Introduction]
Chinese to go
By Sarah DeRosier
That day was no different than any other day Margret had awoken to see her husband hurriedly dressing for work in the corner of their crammed bedroom; he leaned down and kissed her on the check as he ran down stairs. She heard him grab a piece of toast from the toaster and fill his coffee cup from the coffee maker, and then the garage door slammed shut and the sound of the car rolling away down the road until it drifted off in the distance could be heard.
It had been like this now for several weeks; Margret worked a late night shift at the packing factory she had just started working at after the wedding. It seemed as though after the honeymoon things had changed, but why? They still loved each other they just didn't see each other as much as they used to, so why these feelings of uncertainty? It had only been three weeks since they had gotten married.
Slowly Margit pushed these thoughts from her head as she got up and made sure the kids got ready for school on time, making their lunches, making sure they ate their breakfast and lastly making sure they caught the bus on time. The morning after that point went by as though she had been sucked into a whirl wind, by the time she realized it all of the chores and tasks she had to do around the house were over and done. She decided to treat herself to an afternoon out at the mall to go pick up a few new books, reading after all was her favourite pass time.
She slowly walked into the bustling mall it was crammed with people flowing in and out of stores, she made her purchase of four books and a music CD she had been eyeing now for several months, but each time she wanted to get it had convinced herself that the kids needed something that was far more important. She realized soon after that she was hungry she went to the nicest place in the mall a tiny little sit down Chinese restaurant, it wasn't the greatest place to eat but it was by far better than the food court. She was promptly seated by a small old and pudgy Chinese lady that seemed to have a smile plastered on her face.
The place was completely full and the lady sat her down at a table for two which was the only place available to sit. Margit looked though the menu trying to decide what sounded good or how much would she indulge herself today. She barely noticed the young man at the front of the restaurant that was trying to get a seat. "Miss you no mind sharing this table do you?" the fat little old lady had shown up with the man at her table and she was trying to seat the man as quickly as possible but found it hard to do so with her restaurant so full.
Margit looked up at the man he was young and handsome she found herself not able to pull her gaze away from him "Margit do you remember me we dated in high school remember!, I moved away to Germany but I came back just a few days ago" Margit struggled to put a name to the face but it was no good. "It's all right we know each other we can sit together" the man said smiling to the little old lady.
The meal went by quickly Margit chit chatted with the man like they were old friends, never once remembering who he was or thinking to ask for his name. The meal finished and quickly got paid for by the nameless gentlemen. As Margit got up she felt the man's soft hands place themselves gently over hers to help her up as she got to her feet he grasped her in his arms holding her close to him and he leaned into her roughly yet passionately kissing her. The kiss ended and Margit looked up and smiled deeply into his eyes. The man helped her put on her coat and they slowly walked out of the restaurant together smiling and holding each other's hands.
