Future of constant connection

"Anyone logging in for their first WA meeting? Please introduce yourself, first name only. Remember no A/S/L." the moderator asked.

The room lagged until I finally broke the silence, "Hi my name is Nora and I am an addict."

A collective "Hi Nora" filled my screen.

"We are glad to have you with us. Congrats on acknowledging you have an issue, you have already achieved the first step. I will now post the 7 steps."

1. Acknowledge the issue
2. Initiate the help program
3. Allow the troubleshooting scan to finish
4 Install fixes

6 Integrate
7 Automatically set updates

She continued, "Today is an open topic discussion. So who want to share?"

Over the next hour, different users told their tale of addiction. They started the same, experiencing the feeling of being over attached and hearing about disconnecting. Then they tried it, just for just a few moments at first. Soon the occasional detachment was not enough and they craved for more. The periods of time became longer with each increasing in movement. Quickly they had descended into walking - for hours sometimes -to chase the high and becoming addicted to the rush of chemicals released by their brains. Finally, ended up here just as I had.

The path before me would not be an easy one, but at least was it not a lone one.
