To be married; an Astrologer would be consulted to a child to see whether they were eligible. The women's thoughts and opinions did not matter to whom they would marry. Fathers had the last say. The marriages were carefully considered in China. Once married the wife was like a slave to her husband's family. The girl gained more respect if she gave birth to boy. The sons were always celebrated more than the girls. If the families were very poor they would sell the daughter to a wealthy family as a servant. If the wife did not give birth to a boy than the husband often took other wives.
