My wife owns a pretty Christmas cactus
that blooms once a year and no other time.
A dire tragedy nearly befell us
last week; my GI bleed made her fears climb.
On my second day in ICU she
comes home to attend to a few details.
Worry weighing her down, what does she see?
Her cactus bears a bloom! The strange sight quells
her fears and calms her mind, for it’s a sign
for her from Above that I’ll be all right.
Today I’m back home recovering fine.
I’m not sure that bloom was a holy sight.
What she also told me did give me pause.
When each of her two sisters she did tell
of her cactus blossom, tears fell because
both said their cactus bore one bloom as well.
Each must decide about three out-of-season
blooms. Due to natural or holy reason?
