I wrote this poem when a friend of mine passed away, leaving her daughters behind.
When the end is near, when there comes that time in life,
All I want is you here, safe from the rest of strife.

You mean the world to me, my dearest one,
May you be blessed be, when all is said and done.

Others will wish you well, others will wish you love,
On me they will dwell, for I will be above,
But from you I ask, just one small task.

Find your courage and your valiance,
Seek your passion and your defiance,
Wear not the mask of grief in your search for relief,
Use not the crutch of despair
To soothe, to weld, and to bear,
On the one journey that we all must share.
