The Search for Christ - Part 2

So in the first part of this series, it is very clear what scripture is, what the word of God is, and the makeup of God as the trinity is shown. But in any search for Christ, one must first understand who He was and what His purpose was.

So who was Jesus Christ, or in the Greek, Iesou Christou? First of all, he was a person. One of the big new arguments so many atheists put out now is that everything in scripture is made up and Christ never actually existed. This has no basis whatsoever, but it keeps getting repeated, as if eventually everyone will be fooled. The fact is, even the most devoted atheist scientists and historians all agree tat Jesus did in fact exist and was very real. So any line of reasoning that Christ wasn't a real person is complete hogwash.

Secondly, he was God, as we pointed out in the first part of the series. (If you have not read part one, I highly suggest doing so before continuing here.) True man and True God, Jesus was exactly what He is purported to be. We see the divinity of Jesus through His miracles, as well as His divine knowledge and teachings. But the most amazing example of Christ as God is laid out in John 1:3 -

"πάντα δι’ αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο, καὶ χωρὶς αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο οὐδὲ ἕν ὃ γέγονεν."

Translated reads "All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being."

At first glance this sentence may seem a bit merry go roundish, but it is one of the most telling and incredible verses in all of scripture. ALL things came into being through Him, which means when God spoke creation into existence, the work of creation was done by the Word, in other words, Jesus Christ as the Word is the creator of ALL things. Without Christ NOTHING would exist. This is profound. For all who think Jesus was just the Son of God who went around teaching and then became the sacrifice for our sin, He was SO much more. His presence before His birth as man and God is the very essence of our entire being. Again, to understand this we have to understand the trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ IS God, just as the Father is God, the Father speaks, Christ does His will. The Holy Spirit brings that will into our being and understanding. God MUST be all three. If He were just the Father, He would be the unapproachable Holy Father whom we could never live up to. If He were the Father and Christ alone, the presence would be gone from earth because Jesus ascended to heaven and we would have nothing here to help us. By all three, the Father rules over all, Christ is the key to salvation, and the Holy Spirit is our communication to all three, as well as the one that guides us through this life. Without Jesus Christ, NOTHING would exist. This is the importance of verse 1:3, and the importance of who He is.

We must also take a moment and bring the Holy Spirit into this discussion, because the Holy Spirit is just as important and in need of understanding as Christ Himself. Let's start with who the Holy Spirit is. The Holy Spirit is not just some invisible force. When Jesus spoke of the HS, He used the term "HE", not "IT". In the KJV, in Romans 8:16, there is a mistranslation of the HS when it is referred to as 'itself'. The Greek wording, "αὐτὸ τὸ πνεῦμα συνμαρτυρεῖ τῷ πνεύματι ἡμῶν ὅτι ἐσμὲν τέκνα θεοῦ", is properly translated, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with the spirit of us, that we are children of God." HIMSELF teaches that the spirit is a living entity, not just some force.

The Holy Spirit intercedes, testifies, leads, and commands. He guides and appoints. But most importantly, the Holy Spirit is the workhorse. Christ ascended over 2000 years ago, and since that time, it has been the Holy Spirit that has been here doing the work, keeping evil from overrunning the entire earth. Leading us, guiding us. The Holy Spirit is the very being that allows us to know Christ and realize His love and salvation, as it is written, "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness of me." (John 15:26)
It is the Holy Spirit that testifies in our hearts that Jesus Christ is Lord, the He is our savior, the Son of God come to take away the penalty of death of our sins for us. without the Holy Spirit, we would not be able to feel the true message of Christ, we would simply be told about it or read about it. But through the Holy Spirit in US, we can FEEL Christ inside of us.

The Holy Spirit is all knowing, we read this in 1 Cor. 2:10-11: "For to us God revealed them through the Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so, the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God." The Holy Spirit is called God by Peter, in Acts 5:3-4: But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back some of the price of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God."

This is the strength, the true form of the Holy Spirit. His importance cannot be understated, for the Holy Spirit is SO important, to blaspheme against Him is the ONLY unforgivable sin! Even if you blaspheme CHRIST, it can be forgiven, but NOT the Holy Spirit..as written in Matt. 12:31-32 : "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall NOT be forgiven. And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or the age to come."
