Those Who Came

On a cloudless day I can see
in the haze beneath the trees
where flowers shade with bumble bees
a single grave in modesty

As colors blend with words of faith
the sun extends a warm embrace
and some contend to stay and wait
even when the daylight fades

A solemn praise is their lament
to give his name in requiem
sorrow stays as mourning ends
a moments grace when truth begins

The air is thick to hold the weight
of heavy hearts with those who came
selfless in their own restraint
