When life hits you where it hurts, sometimes it helps to hear something sad.
The clouds are rolling in
as cold and flat as lead,
But nowhere is the sky so gray
         as here inside my head

I need to hear a song
         to ease the pain inside;
A lay to lay what soft relief
         as music can provide.

         So good or bad,
Play something sad.

I saw you yesterday,
how could I have known then
That never would I have the chance
         to hear your voice again.

But time is often cruel
         without a care for why,
It slips along and speeds away
         and snatches our goodbye.

         For what we had,
Play something sad.

In this, my new reality,
a melancholy melody
could serve to set my sorrow free
and let me let you go.

One day perhaps I might
from grief at last be spared
Until then I will play a song
and think on what we shared.

         I would be glad
For something sad.
