Broken Promise prompt for Writer's Cramp |
I promised myself that I wouldn’t fall in love. The thing is, he has green eyes. Like, deep green eyes. The kind that you want to compare to emeralds or some other fantastic dark stone that’s valuable because it’s pretty and everyone wants it. I should’ve known that not falling for someone with green eyes wasn’t going to be possible for me. The other thing is, he has a great laugh. The kind of laugh that makes you laugh even if you don’t know what he’s laughing about. You didn’t hear the joke, but his laughter is bright and rings out over the room, even when it’s filled with other people, and you can’t help the smile that comes to your lips. You’d love to hear the joke, but mostly you’d love to hear him laugh again. Well, another thing is that he has wonderful hands. They’re strong and a little bit rough, but he so very carefully helps you mend your reading glasses even though the screws are tiny and unmanageable. They’re sure and confident when he touches your face, smooths your hair, or pulls you close. And of course, there’s the thing with his smile. It knows something you don’t, or maybe it’s laughing at you, but in that way that’s more kind than cruel and it seems to be only for you. You know it probably isn’t, but the way the smile is reflected in his eyes when he looks at you makes you think maybe it could be just for you. And of course, there are his shoulders. Broad and strong and carrying the weight of the world, because he wants to make it better for someone else. I promised myself I wouldn’t fall in love. But I did anyway. |
