A poem about a baby's first day in the world
She was drowning in light
Surrounded by white
She was cold and confused
And nothing felt right

She was engulfed in sound
From the people around
And her high pitched wails
They made her ears pound

She was poked and slapped
Weighed and tapped
Wiped and rinsed
Then gently wrapped

The air moved by
She was moving- that's why
But it felt a bit cold
So she started to cry

But then the world stopped
As she was carefully plopped
Into the eager arms
Of her mother and pop

Their arms were curled
Over their little girl
Protecting their baby
From the outside world

The baby's heart slowed
Her parent's faces glowed
And outside the window
It began to snow

Not a glamorous scene
No shimmer or gleam
Nothing sparkled or flashed
But it was just so serene

It was real and true
And vulnerably new
But there was a strength
It that plain little room

Held against her mother's chest
The little one felt so very blessed
Away from all that light and noise
She decided it was time to rest
