Out of the Shadows

Hidden serpent penned a missive,
not giving half a flip
Insensitivity could be blamed here,
the message some sort of ghastly, aging trip

"You're pointless and too brief!"
She managed to exhort
"You haven't got a bloody clue,
you bovine, useless sort!"

Hooves cried to the heavens,
his heart was in his hoof
Try no more with the writing
Keep counsel, stay aloof

Hooves went on to wander,
crossing riverbed and stream
never trying to communicate
with those who were quite low-down mean

Some postured and they preened,
happily rid of one lonely cow
Who will they bully in Hooves' absence?
Will you be in their sights, too, now?

Something happened in a meadow,
a poem came to mind
Sharing could be helping -
Hooves had other friends to find

Out of the shadows, Hooves emerged
Ready and willing to compete
More careful and less trusting,
learning to rise above defeat

So, when you imagine sending
a message laced with hate so vile,
think for a moment and choose kindness
Trade your worst instinct for a smile!
