The fate of dragon kind... (Form: Sapphic Ode) A Story Poem Entry |
The Forever Dream (Sapphic Ode) Dark carnival glass colored scales, impenetrable to the world, hard claws that were meant to impale, large wings unfurled. In battles, victories declined until its great numbers dwindled. Withdrawing, it waited to find dreams rekindled. A terrible vision of fright belying a cognizant mind trapped in a strange primal night seeking its kind. Such is the callous hand of fate; A flawed design for revival. Without a compatible mate, no survival. A lifespan of unbounded length makes breeding infrequent at best and even with wisdom and strength no future left. It searches the earth through ages with patience and hope in its heart. At times at peace, then it rages, alone apart. Wisdom, like hope, comes in fits as lands evolve gentle and fair, and it retreats in sleep to its fiery lair. The last of its kind, filled with dreams, it senses the world from below. It waits seeking wisdom it seems; for men to grow. Over the years that have passed it has stirred, sensing a gleam. False, so it remains in its last forever dream.
