Catching Memories Old Memorial Stadium sticks in my head watching visiting Yankee, Thurman Munson, catch the night away then there was Shortstop Cal Ripken, Jr. Number eight jersey Take me in my mind to the Inner Harbor now to what they call, "Camden Yards" still home to some great ball even Mr. Ripken played there for a time in the autumn of his career Thurman Munson died young in a plane crash in the late 1970's greatest catcher I ever saw but Rick Dempsey was pretty fine, too playing for the Baltimore Orioles may not bring the glory of the Yankees but it brought some crisp fall nights to Charm City which is what natives call "Baltimore" Poe is buried downtown, mysteriously in the city where he died And right down the big road to Rockville, you'll find F. Scott Fitzerald and his Zelda resting comfortably 'til the next Jazz Age St. Mary's Church cemetery is where they lie the church had Wednesday night Bingo could spirits of flappers past hear the caller? in the shadow of literary giants and baseball greats, Maryland my Maryland my ultimate home... 26 Lines |
