Darkness

A match is struck,
A candlelit,
is it for hope,
or sadness,

Meaning unknown,
with that,
one thing is sure
It will light the way,
for someone,

the flame flickers,
the darkness pushes,
trying to take over,
the fear is real,

The fear of the unknown,
fear of the dark,
of what is hiding,
lurking in wait,

The fear is always there,
waiting to take over,
seize control,
crush you,

the light flickers,
goes out,
or,
was it ever lit?
