Flowers and Bruises

He gives her flowers everyday
Hoping one day it'll take the pain away
But petals can't cover up bruises
and leaves can't hide her heart's decay

Her pain is deeply rooted in the seeds
Her soul is buried in the ground with
the soil he used to bury her mind

He made her feel bad for things
she couldn't control,
Pushing her closer and closer to
the edge of insanity
Til she gave everything in herself
to make him happy
Her mind, her pride, sacrificed her will
to be anything for herself

Till there was nothing left
planted in the garden of her mind
No light behind those eyes
And no tears left to water
the hopes she let die
