A new experience enjoyed at home. |
We will try birdwatching as something new; Covid-19 has disrupted the plans. No Grand Bahamas or Vegas this year; vacation at home—“Staycation,” no less. Look at the pines trees in front of our house; there are two wrens busy making a nest. Gracie and George, names that do seem to fit; George is the colorful one wearing red. Out in the back are Canadian geese; pecking relentless the grass of the field. Goslings feed too yet are leery as well; they run like quicksilver when danger nears. Early in morning he soars o’er the lake; blue heron majestic in steady flight. Sometimes he lands on the post by the dock; agent of nature to awe humble folk. Bluejays and cardinals more rare to our eyes; seen against green vivid contrast so true. Burgeoning verdant of nature arrives, welcoming avian life to observe. Red breasted robins do hop through the grass; manic their trek yet at once steady pause. Built for the air they are not made to walk; bird ambulation a pleasure to watch. Tis something new for us as we stay home; we have binoculars hanging close by. They magnify so the better to see; a Stay Vacation with nature at hand. 28 Lines Writer’s Cramp Winner 5-24-20 |
