Hoping for the best outcome.

I hoped you'd get better,
I prayed you'd get well,
The Doctors broken records;
"Only time will tell",
I hoped you'd get better,
Despite what they said,
But then came the dreaded,
When they said you were dead.

It took me a second,
You weren't coming back,
The Doctors said quietly;
"It was a heart attack",
Now I'm sat on this chair,
Digging nails into my head,
Screaming; "This isn't fair",
When they said you were dead.

I'm sat alone now,
The guests are all gone,
People I don't know said;
"He was a good man, John",
The house feels so hollow,
I look out to your shed,
And remember back to last week,
When they said you were dead.

I'm going to sleep now,
I want to stop the pain,
As I close my eyes I whisper;
"We're coming together again"
I shut my eyes,
And rest my head,
I will forget about the day,
When they said you were dead.

I wake up at your bedside table,
You are awake and give me a smile,
"The doctors say that I am stable",
I was dreaming all the while.

I hoped you'd get better,
I prayed you'd get well,
The Doctors broken records;
"Only time will tell",
I hoped you'd get better,
Despite what they said,
So then came the divine,
When they said you were fine,
And the worries dispersed from my head.
