A poem for my father.

I miss you, so I try to remember,
So much I’ve done since then, so much to tell,
Not seeing you since that dreary September,
When you left, all I could say was farewell.

What if you could see me now?
If only, I wish, I knew how.

I’d bet you’d be proud of what I’ve done,
The challenges I’ve faced and the ones just begun.

I just want one day and night to see you, but I know,
After that one day and night, I couldn’t let you go.

I’d cherish every second, every word, every smile,
Every breath you took, just us on our perfect, isolated isle.

The song, which played when I saw you last, still brings me to tears,
I know, you’d cherish your little girl even after all these years.

But all I remember is the cold wind whipping,
Staring at the coffin, at the age of six, my nose dripping,
Standing there, with tears running down my face,
Others come and go, but a father you cannot replace.
