A Wolf's Sonnet to the Rabbit

Does the wolf stew over the thoughts of a rabbit
Does he worry of their wives and children
or does he snap them up without an otherwise thought
Does each life he takes weigh heavy
on this predator’s weary soul
or does he receive blessing from
whatever feral god he serves

Does the rabbit pray whenever she sees the wolf pass by
asking whatever gentle lord protects her
for a single blessing
that this danger will glide by leaving her and her family unblemished
yet truly she only freezes - pulse quickening
the wolfs pawsteps rumbling in her ears - his nose quivering
the wolf and the rabbit - predator and prey - natural and real
