The season after Thanksgiving started ever so slow;
four long weeks of the mind numbing work you know
mixed with visits planned and cards to sign and mail,
But there was to be chaos over the holidays; no fail,
bows flying, colored paper ripping, and dogs barking,
kitty hissing, baking smells, and more Emily laughing.
It all blends together into a dreamy and sweet haze.
My daughter came from southern California like a blaze,
only to find frigid Maine temperatures and gales streaming.
We cuddled and embraced mugs of hot cocoa, steaming,
but the quiet sleepy pauses only lasted for a moment
Soon the house was again a beautiful swirl of movement.
Like a mini tornado or tropical sea spout whirling no less,
quickly spreading holiday cheer instead of lonely sadness,
She runs through my previously too quiet little home.
I think this is what made 'Joy to the World' a happy poem
With a wonderfully happy and praise filled smiles’ glow,
Looking at bright candles reflecting upon new snow.
