Sonnet
A
snow white page is ready for conquest;
I have the words all swimming in my head;
they surface, but never at my behest,
and trying harder makes them sink like lead.
Jotting down a few words marks the page,
but victory eludes me like a mist;
messy scribbles try to set the stage,
without even a hint of any gist.
Perhaps it's time to take a different tack;
I research different topics on a whim,
by reading up on basics that I lack,
I'm sure I'll teach these wily thoughts to swim.
No matter how I strive to learn the craft,
the white is marred by nothing but a draft.
